This weekend was rich with cultural outings. Even though there are plenty of things that I could choose to write about, I was most touched by the Soulages Museum. A contemporary artist, Soulages works a lot with blacks and browns, not to illustrate windows for the viewers, but to create strong and imposing walls. He wants to engage the public immediately. This engagement is critical for him because he believes that art can’t live without acknowledgement from an audience. Our guide encouraged us to find the “counter-key” to Pierre Soulages to free the entire truth of each work of art. Maybe my reaction to the pieces and this museum is the beginning of my discovery of my “counter-key”.
