The January 1894 edition of the Bulletin of Atlanta University discusses the progress and goals of the university and includes a speech by alum Mattie F. Childs entitled “The Progress of the Colored Women since 1863” on pages 5-6. Childs discusses the activism of leading black women of the age and praises their involvement in educational, religious, and temperance reform amongst other causes.
