Will Carlisle’s Rich History Withstand the 21st Century?

A 2004 Washington Post article [citation below] highlights Carlisle’s 250 year history. Carlisle has seen successful Farmers Markets, Civil War generals, and prison breaks. Plenty of historical figures have graced the town, including British Major John Andre, Bessie Jones, Molly Pitcher, and Ben Franklin. This quaint town has more history than meets the eye. The author closes with, “Having weathered war and other winds of change, Carlisle’s our bet to withstand the assaults of the new century.”

How has Carlisle responded to the introduction of Wal-Mart and other large retail stores?
