XLR Boom Microphone

The XLR Boom is a great microphone for shooting videos. It can be combined with a fishpole to gain extended reach to pick up even better audio. These microphones are great to use with our professional camera equipment and lighting to produce advanced video projects.

Shoe-Mount Boom Microphone

The Shoe-mount Mic is a small but powerful microphone that can be attached directly to any of our high-end cameras. It produces really great audio quality and is easy to use.

Sony Reader

The Sony Reader is a mobile eBook reader that also supports several other popular book formats. It is light and convenient. We currently have about a dozen in stock.

Headsets and Headphones

We have both headphones that use a standard audio plug (found on most mp3 players, computers, etc.) and headsets that use USB. The USB headsets also include a volume control and a microphone and are great for video calls.

XLR Cables

This cable is generally used for microphones when being used with floor stands, but can be used anytime an XLR cable is needed. Shorter cables (such as for use with a desk stand) and coiled cables (for use with video cameras which have an XLR port) are also available.

Intro to Equipment

Description

The Media Center houses a large pool of video equipment for check out so classes creating videos have resources readily available to them.  Although many students have worked with some of this equipment, most do not have the full understanding of what we have available and what each piece is capable of doing.  After discussing the project your class will be working on, we can evaluate which items would need to be covered in this training and we can set up a time to bring you class to Media Center so they can get an overview of the technologies.  This training covers the basics of what we have available and how to handle the equipment.  This session does not focus on techniques and best practices when shooting video.  We do offer that session as well and the 2 trainings can be merged into one long session or they can be broken up into multiple smaller sessions.

Instrumental and Vocal Microphones

We have microphones available designed for both vocal and instrumental recording. Both are useful for recording performances, while the vocal microphones also offer an excellent option for podcast or speech recording.

Shure SM57 is an exceptional microphone for musical instrument pickup and vocals. With its bright, clean sound and contoured frequency response, the SM57 is ideal for live sound reinforcement and recording. In the studio, it is excellent for recording drums, guitar, and woodwinds.

Shure SM58 vocal microphone is designed for professional vocal use in live performance, sound reinforcement, and studio recording. Its tailored vocal response for sound is a world standard for singing or speech. A highly effective, built-in spherical filter minimizes wind and breath “pop” noise. A unidirectional (cardioid) pickup pattern isolates the main sound source while minimizing unwanted background noise. The SM58 will perform consistently, outdoors or indoors.

Wii

Wii game consoles can be used in the Studio room of the Media Center. A collection of Wii games are available. It is a Japanese Wii and is useful for Japanese language practice as well as recreation.
