Keep connected with us!

See you on September 29th!

Keith Fischer ’02- WDCV Sports Broadcasting Advisor- To Be Inducted Into Dickinson Sports Hall of Fame

Keith Fischer ’02, WDCV’s Sport Broadcasting Advisor, is a humble guy who probably didn’t want to make a big deal about him getting inducted into the Dickinson Sports Hall of Fame for Football…..so he didn’t tell us.  The internet is great for finding out these bits of info though, so as we looked at the Homecoming Schedule (WDCV is planning a BIG celebration that weekend for our 50th Anniversary) we noticed this post about the football game.

WHAT!? Sorry Keith, this is too good to keep under wraps.  Kudos on your achievement!  WDCV thanks you for doing such a great job with our Sports Broadcasting team and we are super happy you will be recognized for the years you spent playing on Biddle Field.

Returning DJ Info Session

Welcome back Dickinsonians!!  We can’t wait to get you back on the air so this year we are fast tracking our info session so we can start broadcasting this weekend.  There will be an info session for RETURNING DJs on Tuesday August 28th at 7pm in Stafford Audtiorium.  If you miss it,  you can attend one of the NEW DJ info sessions September 5th & 6th(wed. & thur) at 7pm in Tome 115.  You MUST attend one of these to get a show so you have 3 chances if you are a returning DJ.  This might be our best semester EVER.  It’s our 50th Anniversary and we are planning some BIG stuff for Homecoming Weekend.  We hope you will be DJ again so you can be part of it.  We can’t wait to see you all again!

***Community DJs don’t have to attend this meeting. Email wdcvfm@gmail.com if you can no longer do your show or need to change the time.***

Weekly Free Shows at Messiah College

Our little Central Pa valley has quite a few colleges packed between the mountains.  We like to keep up with what shows are going on locally so we can know if a road trip is in order.  For the past few years, Messiah has put on a great weekly show series called b sides.  Every Wednesday there is another band playing for in their student union.  You may not have heard of the bands, but that shouldn’t stop you from paying them a visit.  Free weekly live music is a bonus no matter how small the band.

Upcoming Local Shows for the Start of the Semester

People are always complaining that there aren’t any good shows or events in the area.  Well, this list proves them wrong….

9/8-Abbey Bar (21 & over) – Harrisburg We Were Promised Jet Packs

9/14 Carlisle Theatre – Josh Ritter

9/22 Hershey-Farm Aid

10/4 Abbey Bar (21 & over) – Harrisburg Jon Spencer Blues Explosion

10/24 Whitaker Center-Harrisburg- Henry Rollins – Spoken Word

The Avett Brothers at Innsbrook Snagajob Pavilion 7/20/2012

Almost a week ago now, I had the chance to see ever-energetic and delightful Avett Brothers perform in concert. I had yet to see them live, and after hearing wonderful things and crying over the online ticket purchase only briefly, I was able to see them in all their bearded glory.

Despite the kind of monotonous and nap inducing opener Jessica Lea Mayfield, The Avett Brothers came on with “Will You Return” and it was like a bomb went off in the pavilion (in a good way). Everyone was dancing, even the dads in their lawn chairs with beer sloshing everywhere. It was a hot and humid night, but halfway through their set it started drizzling slightly, and it was practically a scene from Singing in the Rain.

The set list in its entirety is below:

1) Will You Return
2) Traveling Song (slow)
3) Down With The Shine
4) Love Like the Movies
5) January Wedding
6) Salina
7) At the Beach
8) Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise
9) Live & Die
10) Laundry Room
11) Sally’s Lover
12) Ballad
13) Closer Walk
14) The Fall
15) Colorshow
16) Go to Sleep
17) Kick Drum Heart
18) Slight Figure Of Speech
————-
19) Please Pardon Yourself (slow)
20) Paranoia
21) And it Spread
22) Talk on Indolence

This band is amazing because whenever they play their songs live, they always seem to change some of the lyrics. After stalking the forums on the band’s website after the show, I even found some live recordings so all of you avid fans can watch for yourself. Included is the recording of their new song “Live and Die” set to be released on their new album which comes out in September.

Will You Return

Down with the Shine

Live and Die

Just A Closer Walk With Thee

Please Pardon Yourself

For more pictures from the concert you can see them on one of the photographer’s facebook here:

Thanks again for filling out WDCV’s alumni survey and keeping in touch!  We wanted to update you on our plans for our 50th Anniversary festivities.

Dickinson College’s Alumni Weekend is just around the corner (June 8th & 9th) and today (May 25th) is the last day to register for the weekend.  WDCV will be holding a few events including a live broadcast on Britton Plaza Friday June 8th from 1-3pm and an Open House Saturday June 9th from 1-3pm.  We will be showcasing our vast archive of images, newspaper clippings and other memorabilia we have collected from WDCV’s last 50 years.

It’s not too late to share your personal collection with us!  Please email if you have anything you might want to donate to WDCV or make a copy for us to have.  If you are coming out for the weekend, bring your stuff along and we can try to make copy while you are here!  If you know of any WDCV alums that haven’t connected with us, please forward this on to them too!

We are hoping to connect with a few of you attending from the class of 1962.  We are celebrating 50 years right along with you and thank you for helping to get WDCV started!

No worries if you can’t make it out for Alumni Weekend because this is just a warm up to our big plans for Homecoming Weekend (September 29th).  We are hoping WDCV alums will connect with each other and plan to come out in groups.  We have heard such great stories through the alumni survey and we want to here all of the details of your time at WDCV.  Mark your calendar because here is what we have planned:

Wine Walk Broadcast

Pat Craig Stuidos!

On Saturday April 28, WDCV will be broadcasting live from the Wine Walk hosted by the Pomfret Street Merchants!  We will be playing fabulous music outside of the fabulous Pat Craig Studios, and talking to folks joining in on the Wine Walk.  The Wine Walk entails tasting wines and snacks at different stations in downtown Carlisle.

It also entails having a freaking blast.

It should look something like this...

WDCV Benefit Concert

If you didn’t know by now you will soon. WDCV is having an awesome benefit concert this Saturday April 14th. There are going to be raffle drawings if you bought tickets at any of the live on Britton Plaza events. Secondly there is also another nice prize for anyone who said they were going to attend on Facebook and attends the event, so kudos to another potential winner. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and the following bands will be playing: Charlotte, Synergy and Wild Horse. Run With It will also be making an appearance so be sure to check them out too. There will be plenty to snack on and lots of loud music so be sure to stop by. In reality, the more the merrier.

Most importantly, by attending the event you will be supporting an honorable cause. Money raised at the even will be used to help build a well in Tanzania. The township does not have the resources to collect clean water and this could give them a big hand.

Live On Britton Plaza: It’s Going Down!

The folks at WDCV are busy raising money for a well in Africa this month. The township does not have access to water and the development of a well would solve this problem. The Live On Britton Plaza events take place on Monday and Wednesday, and this Friday there is a grilled cheese and movie night! So here’s what you folks of Dickinson College and Carlisle have available at a normal Live on BP. You can purchase raffle tickets for awesome prizes such as jewelry or a gift card for the Clothes Vine. The are also artsy “bowl shaped” objects for sale as well as splatter painted spin art. Also available are buttons and we even have a bin of cd’s you can check out. Therefore all you folks out there should check in with us on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30-12:30.
