Dickinson College wants to build a classroom of sorts at a 91-acre farm it owns along the 500 block of Park Drive in South Middleton Township.
The college is expected to present its plans to supervisors tonight in its quest for conditional use approval. Plans include converting a barn at the farm into a classroom, kitchen area and two walk-in freezers.
Eventually, the college hopes to establish a working farm that produces all-organic vegetables, explains Pete Thumma, project manager at Dickinson.
“The goal is to make it totally organic and use all sustainable practices out there,” he adds. “It’s going to provide organic vegetables for both our campus dining services, plus for a community-supported agriculture program.”
