HoeDown at the Farm
The College Farm’s hoedown was a toe-tappin’, lip-smackin’ success.
Approximately 150 guests braved rain and cool weather to attend the event, which brought together local farmers, community members, neighbors, students and staff for healthful, down-home fun.
It all began when a nationally recognized roots band, Hoots & Hellmouth, inquired about performing at the College Farm as part of its Harvest Tour. During the two-week tour, the band performs at regional farms and related venues to help promote community-driven sustainable agriculture, farm markets and other local-food initiatives.
They found an enthusiastic audience at Dickinson, reports Jen Halpin, director of the Dickinson College Farm.
“We thought that this was a great idea and we wanted to support their initiative by creating a community celebration,” says Halpin. “It was inspiring to see such a diverse crowd gather over food and be inspired by such vibrant music.”
