Cindy Baur is a recent farm graduate, and she has decided that she wasn’t ready for her time with the farm to be over quite yet and is now one of the four farm apprentices. At Dickinson, Cindy was an Anthropology major. She says she knew about the farm when she applied to Dickinson and volunteered two times her freshman year, but decided the work was too hard and stopped. It wasn’t until a class called Nutritional Anthropology that she realized how important the farm is in sustaining the environment, the food movement, and the community. She applied to work on the farm as soon as she could after taking that class and has been passionate about food studies ever since.

When asked what her favorite thing about the farm is she enthusiastically responded how she enjoys how work on the farm is always changing. She says “I’m always amazed at the end of the day when I think of all the tasks we’ve been able to accomplish as a team and how those little tasks add up and keep the farm running.” We also asked what her favorite farm chore is and she responded “harvesting root vegetables like beets and carrots. It’s like finding a surprise under the soil and they always come out in all different shapes and sizes!”

Above, Cindy is pictured moving into her yurt earlier this spring.
