На большой лодке-плоскодонке я с 4 гусарами, из которых один – мой вестовой Ягелович и один вольноопределяющийся Козлов, с 5 лошадьми переправились через Вислу. Плыли один с половиной час. Было очень опасно из-за идущего льда. Кони очень нервничали. В Червинске поел пампушек и поехал дальше в большую деревню Рембово севернее Вышгорода. Здесь был штаб Вышеградского отряда.

Этот отряд был под командой командира батальона капитана 1-ого ранга Полушкина. Трудно представить себе более пестрый отряд. На него была возложена задача охранять берег Вислы выше Вышгорода. Наша позиция на этом берегу уходила далеко на запад к Плоцку. В штабе главным образом моряки.

I crossed the Visla on a large boat-scow with 4 other hussars, one of whom was my orderly, and volunteer Kozlov, and 5 horses. It took us one and a half hours to get across. It was very dangerous because of the ice flow. The horses were very anxious. I ate a bun in Chervinsk and then continued on to the large village of Rembowo, to the north of Vyshgorod. This is where the headquarters of the Vyshegradsky brigade was located.

This brigade was under the command of first-rank Battalion captain Polushkin. It is hard to imagine a more motley brigade. They were entrusted with the task of protecting the bank of the Visla above Vyshgorod. Our position on this bank is far to the west toward Płock. At headquarters there are mostly sailors.
