Вчера ездил осматривать аэростат у деревни Гурный. Говорят, что с него отлично видны все позиции немцев. Хочу попробовать полетать. В 6-ой сотне взял книгу «Земля», 15-ый сборник. Здесь прочел новую пьесу Арцыбашева «Война». Говорят, она запрещена. Правильно, уж больно мрачна. В Англии женщины не носят траура, чтобы не омрачать энтузиазма, с которым ведется война. А господин Арцыбашев пишет так, словно хочет убить всю энергию и желание воевать.

Сегодня ездил в Червинск. Переправиться на левый берег невозможно, и мои донесения не дойдут. Хотя ничего особенного не происходит: немцы наступают на Плоцк, но их не пускают. Жаль, что Хмелевскую батарею сняли и приказали отправить к полковнику Кузнецову. Она так хорошо пристрелялась на этой позиции.

Yesterday I went to see the blimp near the village of Gurnyi. They say that from the blimp there is an excellent view of the German front. I want to try and fly in it. I took a book from the 6th Company entitled Earth, the 15th volume of the collection. I read in it Artsybashev’s new play, War. They say it has been banned. And rightly so, since it is painfully dark. In England, women don’t wear mourning clothes, so as not to cast a cloud over the enthusiasm in support of the war. Yet Mr. Artsybashev writes as if he wants to kill all the energy and desire to fight.

Today I went to Czerwińsk. It is impossible to cross over to the left bank, and my reports will not arrive at their destination. Although, nothing of particular note is happening: the Germans are advancing toward Płock, but they are being kept out. It’s a shame that the Khmelevsky battery was relocated and ordered to be sent to Colonel Kuznetsov. The battery was able to shoot very well from this position.
