Фольварк Иончик.

Вчера в 4 часа дня неожиданно приехал мне на смену прапорщик Василий Карамзин. Я получил посылку от жены с попутчиком.

Последние дни в Вышгороде было тихо. Вот в Плоцке шли бои. Из газет узнал, что наши очистили Восточную Пруссию, и немцы под Осовцом. При отступлении мы потеряли целый корпус 10-ой Армии. Судя по газете, отступление было поспешное. Наши не умеют хорошо отступать.

Приехав в Червинск, узнал, что лодки, которые еще вчера перевозили Карамзина, искрошились: лед раздавил их. Сказали, что в 7 верстах выше, есть паром. Поехали туда, дорога ужасная, последние дни шли дожди, и грязь непроходимая. Поэтому мы шли берегом реки. Найдя паром, узнали, что по случаю прибыли воды, он не действует. Пришлось заночевать, одного гусара без лошади послал в штаб дивизии с донесением, прося разрешения идти к полку через Ново-Георгиевский мост.

The Ionchik Farmstead

Yesterday at 4 pm, warrant officer Vasilii Karamzin came to relieve me unexpectedly. A fellow traveler gave me a package from my wife.

The last few days in Vyshgorod have been quiet. But in Płock the fighting continued. I learned from the newspapers that we cleared Eastern Prussia and that the Germans are outside Osowiec. During our retreat, we lost the entire corps of the 10th Army. Judging from the newspaper, our retreat was hasty. We don’t know how to retreat well.

Upon arriving in Czerwińsk, I found out that the boats that were transporting Karamzin yesterday were destroyed: they were crushed by ice. They said there was a ferry about 7 versts ahead. We set out, but the road was terrible: it has been raining for the last few days and the mud became impassable. So, we walked along the bank of the river. When we found the ferry, we found out that it was not operating because of the rise in the the water level. We had to spend the night there. I sent one of the hussars without a horse to division headquarters with a report requesting permission to march to the regiment by way of the Novo-Georgievsky bridge.
