Какая непонятная небрежность. Мы только сегодня узнали о приказе Государя Императора о нежелании заключать мир, пока последний неприятельский солдат не оставит русскую землю. Тоже и с приказом генерала Рузского. Только в Росси может быть такая небрежность. Это было сделано, наверное, с целью разложить войск толками о «предательстве» Государя. Совершенно правильно, что Государь не хочет мира. Мы победим, только бы в тылах был порядок, и не было бы революции до окончания войны. Сегодня нас сменяют, и из окопов мы идем в резерв.

What incomprehensible negligence. We only today learned of the Sovereign Emperor’s order about his unwillingness to secure peace until the last enemy soldier leaves Russian soil. It is the same with General Ruzsky’s order. Only in Russia could such negligence occur. This was probably done with the aim of demoralizing the troops with ideas of the Sovereign’s “betrayal.” The Sovereign is perfectly right not to want peace. We wilk win; if only there were order at the rear front and no revolution until the end of the war. Today we are being relieved, and we are going from the trenches to the reserves.
