Вчера командир полка полковник Коленкин собрал офицеров. Он сказал, что, так как полевая война давно кончилась, то для конницы осталась лишь одна окопная служба и вместе с тем новые формирования артиллерии требуют лошадей. Поэтому решено сократить штаты кавалерийских полков и сформировать новые пехотные части, а именно стрелковые полки. Они уверены, что гусары Ее Величества и на новой для них службе будут на высоте своего положения и не позволят своим поведением кинуть упрек полку. Говорят, что должно уйти до 20-30 офицеров. Сегодня была выводка лошадей, и бригадный отмечал лошадей годных для артиллерии и обоза.

Yesterday the regiment commander Colonel Kolenkin assembled the officers. He said that since the field war ended long ago, there is only one period of trench service left for the cavalry and in addition the new artillery units need horses. Therefore it has been decided to reduce the cavalry regiment staff and form new infantry divisions—rifle regiments, to be precise. They are sure that Her Majesty’s Hussars will be at the height of their position in this service new to them and will not allow any reproach to be cast on the regiment with their behavior. They say that up to 20–30 officers must go. Today the horses were brought out to exercise, and the brigade leader noted that the horses are suitable for artillery and wagon caravans.
