Пришли сюда в 3 часа дня. Ночью почти не спал. Штаб корпуса был не в Стрыкове, а в 3 верстах от него. Перед этим я слышал рассказы о штабе 6-ой Сибирской стрелковой дивизии, как штаб дивизии ночью неожиданно ушел, и разъезды попались в плен, поэтому я поставил часового смотреть за штабом и донести немедля, как он станет уходить.

Около 1 часа ночи штаб стал собираться в поход. Я поднял гусар и двинулся в хвосте колонны. В одной из деревень, пройдя версты 3, я остановился и заночевал с 6-ой Донской Лейб-гвардии батареей.

Утром встал и вижу, как по улице идет мой полк, и я тотчас присоединился к нему. Слава богу, нашел. Говорили, что Лович взят немцами, но он наш. Все этому рады. 2-ым эскадроном временно командует поручик Посажной, а я – единственный субалтерн.

12 Versts to the East of Plovno.

We arrived here at 3 in the afternoon. I hardly slept at all during the night. It turned out that the division headquarters was not located in Stryków, but was three versts away. Earlier I’d heard stories about the 6th Siberian Rifle division, about how the headquarters of the division had unexpectedly left in the night and the mounted patrols were taken prisoner, so I dispatched a guard to watch over the headquarters and to report to me immediately in case it started to leave.

At around 1 am the headquarters began to prepare to set out. I woke up the hussars and joined the back of the convoy. In one of the villages, after traveling about three versts, I stopped for the night with the 6th Don Leib-Guard Battery.

In the morning I got up and saw my regiment marching in the street, so I immediately joined them. Thank God I found them. I heard rumors that Łowicz had been captured by the Germans, but in fact it wasn’t the case. Everybody was happy to hear that. Lieutenant Posazhnoy is temporarily in charge of the 2nd Squadron, and I am the only subaltern officer.
