Вулкан Галунгунг (2060 м).

Тасикмалайя – славный городок. Сегодня сперва на авто, потом пешком пришли сюда в старый кратер вулкана, который еще 4 года назад извергал лаву. Очень красивое место. 8 октября 1822 г. было очень страшное извержение, когда погибло более 4000 человек, потом 1894 г., и наконец в 1917 г. здесь образовался «краб» – выросла гора лавы среди озера, которая и теперь еще курится.У подножья вулкана много горячих ключей, и туземцы ходят сюда лечиться.

Сегодня ходили по дну громадного полуоткрытого кратера. Западная стенка кратера высотой 500 м. страшно крута, но уже заросла. Здесь есть очень красивый водопад и горная речка. Я купался в озере. Под вечер пошел дождь. Как бы не промокнуть, ибо палатка одинарная. На следующий день искал места, где в руслах горных речек были горячие ключи. Жаль, что первый раз у меня есть ружье, но никого не встречаю, разве белок.

 

Galunggung Volcano (2060 m).

Tasikmalaya: a wonderful little town. Today we started off in an automobile, then we arrived on foot to old volcanic crater, which was erupting lava just four years ago. It’s a very beautiful place. On the 8th of October, 1822, there was a very terrible eruption when over 4000 people perished; then in 1842; and finally in 1917 this is where the “crab” appeared: a hill of lava rose up from the middle of the lake, which is still smoking to this day. At the foot of the volcano there are many hot springs, and the natives come here for treatment.

Today we walked on the bottom of the huge half-opened crater. The western wall of the crater is 500 m. high and is awfully steep, but it’s already overgrown. There is a very beautiful waterfall here, and a mountain river. I swam in the lake. By evening it began to rain. I’m trying not to get wet, since my tent is only made of one layer. The next day I looked for the place where there were hot springs in the channels of mountain streams. It’s sad, this is the first time I have a gun but there’s nothing around to see besides squirrels.
