После 2-недельного отдыха, я вчера приехал в полк. Выехал в 12 часов ночи, и 4 часа стоял на ногах, так как не было места, поезд буквально набит до отказа. В деревне Блоне напился чая на питательном пункте Пуришкевича. Молодец он. В отличной палатке есть все, что захочешь: чай, кофе, закуски, красное вино и даже папиросы. Тепло и уютно. Милые и очень гостеприимные сестры.. Не будь этого пункта, многие офицеры и солдаты голодали бы по дороге в свои части.

Вчера я был на охоте и подстрелил 2 зайцев из браунинга. Сегодня были выданы медали 4-ой степени «За храбрость» гусару Пожонкову и добровольцу Козлову. Говорят, что до 30 офицеров нашего полка будут переведены в пехоту. Неужели и я попаду? В 2 верстах от нас питательный пункт Пуришкевича, такой же, как в Блоне. Ездил туда навестить знакомую сестру.

18 марта была интересная дуэль в воздухе: показались 2 аэроплана, причем один уходил, а другой его настигал. Наконец, верхний догнал переднего и толкнул его так, что тот полетел вниз как лист, а сам стал кружась садиться. Мы с бьющимся сердцем следили за этой борьбой. Из газет потом узнали, что наш летчик сбил немца и еле-еле сел на землю.

I reached the regiment yesterday, after two-weeks of leave. I left at midnight and I was on my feet for 4 hours because the train was literally packed wall-to-wall. In the village of Blonie, I had all the tea I wanted at one of the Purishkevich refreshment stands[1]. He’s a great man. This wonderful tent had everything you could want: tea, coffee, refreshments, red wine, and even cigarettes. It was warm and comfortable. The nurses were kind and very welcoming. If it were not for this tent, many officers and soldiers would go hungry on their way to their units.

Yesterday, I went hunting and shot 2 hares with my Browning. Today, hussar Pozhonkov and volunteer Kozlov received medals of the fourth class, “For Bravery.” We heard that  up to 30 officers from our regiment will be transferred to the infantry. Will I be among them? There is another Purishkevich refreshment station 2 versts from us, just like the one in Blonie. I went there to visit one of the nurses I know.

On the 18th of March, there was an interesting duel in the sky: 2 airplanes appeared and it looked like one was trying to get away, while the other was pursuing it. Finally, the higher plane caught up to the one in front of it and rammed it so hard that it fell from the sky like a leaf. Then the higher one started circling to land. Our hearts were pounding while we watched this battle. We later learned from the newspapers that our pilot knocked down a German, but then had a close call landing.

[1] Vladimir Purishkevich was a monarchist politician in imperial Russia. He donated money to build food and medical tents along the eastern front.
